Sounds like something that goes inside the steering column on the cabin side... I think there is a part on my old truck called a turn signal cancelling yoke. It's just under the steering wheel. It's easy to access once I pull the wheel... Try looking in your service book at the steering wheel and multi-function stalk areas...
