Guibo Problems

Hi again folks,

I'm a bit new to the whole BMW thing, so I'm hoping that someone has a tip or a suggestion for me.

I just purchased an 84 325E which has been sitting for 3 years or so. After getting it started, etc, and driving around a bit, the GUIBO SHREDDED ITSELF. At least now I know what a guibo is!

Anyway, I pulled the exhaust down and removed the shrouds in preparation for removing the drive shaft, and lo and behold, there is a very thick shroud going all the way around the guibo, thus making it impossible to get hold of the nuts/bolts to loosen. The haynes manual doesn't mention this "guard", and I just can't see any way to remove it. It looks like some kind of guard to keep stuff off of the guibo, including wrenches.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, it's the only thing keeping the car off the road at this point!

Thanks,

Douglas
