if it's like the newer cavalier, there's an imprinted chip in the ecm. you have to take your one (orig. ecm off your vehicle) to the dealership for them to save the settings of your specific vehicle, then you have to take the new ecm there so they can program the values of your old one into the new one. quite a pain in the @ss
