I'm of the opinion that every human being goes through an Oedipus or Electra complex throughout life, and it's completely normal. It only becomes abnormal if it continues after about the age of 12 when puberty starts to hit. Think about it...who is the first person a boy loves? His mother. Ever heard of the saying (from some Barbershop Quartet song) that goes along the line of "I want a girl just like dear ol' mom?" Since the mother is the first person a boy loves, he wants someone who will treat him just like a mother. This only becomes abnormal if the child continues to feel this way about his mother even after the thought of sexual desires and the opposite sex come into play. That's just my take on it.
