Question 306 rear brake caliper plunger cam

Hi,

I'm trying to fix a problem caused by my local death merchants. After having 4 new tyres and all 4 rear brake pads renewed by this "company", I left the same day to drive from the middle of Spain to south Germany (1800 kms). I noticed a rubbing noise and the handbrake was higher than usual but put it down to the pads wearing in and the auto-adjust not having adjusted itself. Anyway, I did actually arrive there and the problems hadn't gone so I whipped off the rear wheels only to find the wheel bolts had hardly been done up, all 4 pads weren't seated properly and the t***er had removed the left side handbrake cable from its lever and hadn't put it back. Bottom line - check all work done.

Anyway, to save removing the centre console inside the car and disconnecting the cable from the handbrake I tried with the slack on the cable to get the nobbly end of the cable back in the lever and the lever turned further than it should (and wouldn't go back). After opening the mechanism I've found the plunger cam has come out of the notch down the side of the center post of the lever. The problem - how do I get the cam back in?!

Anyone any idea? Hope there's a guru who can help, thanks in advance!
