What you are refering to is what i've always called gear jamming. had to do it many times off four wheeling in my 83' cj-7 when the clutch rod gets streached and shifted beyond its limit and falls out. now you can shift without scrapping the gears when u do this, but you have to find the right rpms to do so. when you shift at the right rpms, the pressure will equal out and allow you to shift to the gear u wish to do so. now as far as being hard on the tranny, i dont really think so but i wouldnt want to do this everyday driving back and forth to work etc. i would use it if you need to, but thats just me. ive never tried it in a t-5 in a mustang, but i personally dont trust my t-5 enough to do this alot. from what i have been told, handling stress isnt there strong point.
