Check your Idle Air Contol Valve and see if it needs cleaned. I had two of these cars, a 1995 and a 1998. Both developed these same symptoms at high miles. I cleaned the IAC valve by shooting some carb cleaner in it while gunning the engine, and, it fixed both of them. Pull the rubber duct off the throttle body and you'll see a small dime sized port near the entrance. This is the port going to the IAC. With the engine running, shoot some carb cleaner in this port, while gunning the engine to keep it from flooding out. After a couple healthy doses of the cleaner, let her run until she'll idle normally. Then shut the engine off and put everything back together. A dealer will do it for you, but they'll charge about an hour's labor. Fix it yourself for $2.
