$20 is about right.
~$30 is almost reasonable for the older Tamiya kits that may be hard to find.
$40 is only the price of the new Ferrari models, because Ferrari makes Tamiya put the Ferrari license tag on the box, so you really are paying for the tag.
If that's not what you saw, then they were way overpriced.
Hobby People
should have Tamiya road cars for $15-$23 and race cars for $25-$30. Some will seem like much better deals than others.
