True theft is theft, but there are degrees, and the real problem is the people who download copied software (or mps/vids, whatever), and burn it to cds and sell it. Especially those that also copy the cd cover so perfectly it looks like a bought one. Joe bloggs sitting at home downloading a cracked version of Paintshop Pro so he can make his scanned photos look good for his personal website, is not really a problem, as far as I can see.
Like with mp3s too - I have downloaded heaps, sure. Most of them are actually songs I have on vinyl, and therefore can't really listen to anymore, without paying a second time for the cd (sometimes a third time, cos I bought the cassette, then the lp). No way am I going to do that, and I shouldn't be expected to, either. ok there are some other tracks I've downloaded, but they've actually prodded me into buying more cds again, after not buying any for ages.
