lockup is for newer overdrive tannies, at highway speeds an internal clutch engages with an electronic solenoid. giving you the slip free function of a manual, for better gas mileage. drops revs by about 300-400 rpm when it clicks on. standard converters have around 5% slippage. all that slippage is waisted power and gas. but then again, converters with alot of slippage have higher stall points. which are better for racing. so the lockup gives you the option for high stall, and highway cruizin. best of both worlds, hooray for progress.
