Here is how a CAI works. For every 11.1 degree's you lower the intake temperature, you get a 1% gain in HP. This is because colder air is more dense than warm air. This is also the same way and principle behind an intercooler on a turbo motor. The HP output with a CAI depends on a)what the underhood temp is and b)what the outside ambeint temp is (since this is where the induction takes place with a CAI. If the underhood temperature is 125 degree's, and the outside ambeint temperature is 60 degree's, that's a difference of 65 degrees. That comes out to a HP increase of 5.8% under these conditons. That would eqaul an 11.6 HP gain on a 200HP motor. But the HP increase will be 1% for every 11.1 degree's you lower the intake temp with a CAI. With a short ram, induction takes place in the hot engine bay where the filter is located, so the power gain is not nearly as much, since you are not really lowering the temp. A power gain here is mostly due to the increased airflow of the new intake (which a CAI gives you too, a true CAI located the fliter outside the engine compartment, near the wheel well, for example). I hope this helps you a bit in temrs of what to expect out of a CAI.
