Check the value of the car on Kelly Blue Book or something (
http://www.kbb.com ) and see how much it's really worth.
You could always donate the car to the kidney foundation and write it off when you do your taxes, though i'm not sure if they do that in this area. I'm still relatively new to the NJ/NY area.
