I was reading in my Haynes manual about the VSS(vehicle speed sensor). It controls the operation of the Torque Converter Clutch(TCC)
system. You may want to mention it to your mechanic.

A problem I had with my Mazda where it would hesitate/stutter at about 3500 rpm ended up being the Mass Airflow sensor. All I had to do was clean it with brake cleaner and it fixed it.

Also if you are still getting the EGR code I would definitely have them follow that problem. Could be clogged ports on the intake manifold where the EGR valve connects. Good luck!
