Opel is an european car, but it's not from Italy, it's from Germany. Some special models (such as coupes and convertibles) have been built in Italy by Bertone in Torino. They build Opels (and Vauxhalls, which is the brand name for the same cars in the United Kingdom) in many factories around Europe, and elsewhere, but the main factory and design center still are in Ruesselsheim, Germany.

The origin of Opel is a town called Ruesselsheim in Germany which is located near Frankfurt am Main. It was founded in the 19th century and the first car was built in 1899 (they had been building e.g. sowing machines and bicycles before cars). In the 1920's it became a part of General Motors and it's GM's main brand in Europe, a bit like Chevrolet in the USA. It's one of the most common and biggest car brands in Europe.
