LT1 Z28's were used, which had approx. 305hp., similar to the SS's in 96 and 97. They were called B4C's and were basically a debadged Z28. They looked like a 6 cylinder except for the exhaust tips.
Nowadays, police Z28's and T/A's are equipped with LS1's with around 345hp. They can run the 1/4 mile in about 13 seconds flat...
This is all assuming that the officers who drive them have left them in their stock form. I know a cop that drives one, and he has actually toyed with it quite a bit. Even with my nitrous I'd think twice before trying to outrun that guys car...
