Hello all :o) I need your opinions on something. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that my 2000 Dodge Neon ES had a large spot under it like it was leaking. It hadn't been driven more than once in a couple of weeks so I'm not sure how long it had been leaking. The spot wasn't really wet and it didn't leave a colored stain on my driveway...it was more like a clear greasy spot. I tried to pick up some of it with a white rag and the color it picked up was a very very light brown color like new oil. I moved the car and checked the next day and sure enough, there was a new spot which was, again, almost colorless. All the fluids were at good levels except for the coolant resevoir so my initial thought was that it was the source of the leak. I am on bedrest for the next 4 months due to complications with my pregnancy so I couldn't take it in right away. My husband took it to Dodge a few days later and I was really surprised to find that their diagnosis was that the "transmission lines" needed to be replaced. This stuff wasn't even the slightest bit pink like the tran. fluid. Of course the warranty doesn't cover that and they want $186 to fix it...the parts would cost about $15 at Autozone!!! A few days later, the new spot was red. We do have the new Haynes manual for the car but aside from changing the oil, my husband doesn't know much about fixing cars, lol. He wants to try to do it himself. He says that it "seems easy enough" in the book.
Now, I'm a little hesitant here. If we were talking about HIS 94 Dodge Shadow, I'd be all for him messing around with it but we are talking about MY baby
and I'm not real sure that "it seems easy enough" is good enough for me. He does have access to the auto hobby shop that's on the Navy base he's stationed at and they have the lift and all that so he'd possible have someone to help him out there. What are your opinions? Does this seem like an easy enough thing for him to do on his on with the help of the manual or should we wait until we can swing having the repair done by Dodge?
