You didnt need to do all that

All you had to do was remove the higher nipple of the bulb and install it backwads. Get yourself some 27/12V bulbs and what your doing is exposing the 27V full time vice the 12V. Look at your bulbs look at the metal part on each side see how one nipple is higher then the other? well remove it the higher one witha nail clipper or some sand paper or use a dremel thats easier.
