The pressure plate doesn't matter. You can use an 88 transmission on and d series block as long as you use an 89+ clutch disc and flywheel. Oh yah also, the 88-89 clutch is smaller than the 90 and up so if u got an 88 tranny, then purchase a 90+ clutch disc and flywheel.

I'm 100% sure it's the opposite:
88: 21 Splines
89-00: 20 Splines (d series)
