Some people on VWVortex have dropped VR6's into mk3 golfs, mostly for shock value .. having 4-lug wheels but the 2.8 is unique and surprising.

But the older 1.8T in mk4s has 150 hp; the newer one has 175 or so ... and older VR6s are 172!

Also, the TDI has only ~90 hp, but ~155 lb-ft of torque .. I haven't driven/ridden in one, but I'm sure with that torque it has good pickup, not to mention 50MPG!

Whatever you get, its still a Golf, so its all good I just have a 2.0 but even that is OK, more pickup than the civics I used to drive anyhow!
