Today's oils do have cleaning additives in them, but nothing to what they could have. Don't buy what the oil companies tell you, they aren't going to make the best oil because it would put them out of business. I have proof these work, until you try them don't knock them.
If oils already had enough cleaning power then why all the sludge and build up? Most problems in cars today are caused by engine parts getting gunked up and coroided. Oil is the only thing that lubricates an engine, but it does it poorly in my opinion. Again I have seen the difference.
And on the fuel, your wrong they have not tried to get the energy content as high as possible. That's a ridiculous statement.
I used to think the way you do, but have seen the light and the savings. Fuel power helps in oxidation and other factors that help boost potential energy. A report done by the very well respected Dyson Analysis proves you very wrong.
Now, if you had tried these products and then said all you have you may have an argument. Please don't knock something before you have ever tried it.
