the right side (driver side i think is what you are refering to) is where the water pump is, which is driven by a belt. i could be that thats what your problem is, about 50 bones or so to replace plus labor. i had a similar symptoms with my car overheating in less than a minute and the problem i had was a leaking head gasket, but unless your car runs on 3 cilinders when you first start it up that wont be the case. the thermostat is located (im pretty sure, i have an '83 so someone correct me if im wrong) on the left side of the head (top of the engine) where the big hose from the top of the radiator comes in. if you look at the part the hose attaches to you will notice that it is a seperate part that can be unbolted, the thermostat is inside that, they are extremly cheep so if you are gunna go through the troubble of takeing it apart you mite as well preplace it.
