as bizarre as it seems.... hell i could see what they're talking about with the beliefs of the old world holding fast and staying while the beliefs of the new world aren't put to good use. in a 3rd world country where the educational institutions are either in horrible condition or non-existant, people will turn to religions and beliefs that don't quite exactly make sense in the eyes of a person from a 1st world power....i remember my grandma telling me of stories that in haiti, people would believe in the living dead such as in the case of zombies walking the streets naked and terrorizing people.....so in a sense if it's an old belief, and the people hold on to that belief strong enough, it will happen to them. so therefore, although on the bizarre side, it does make sense to a degree.
