Before you start messing with a computer you need to upgrade the mechanical components. See, you can have a computer designed for a fast car all day long...but if your equiptment isnt fast then that chip is going to go to waste. You can do a few things.
1.) Mill the heads to get a higher compression ratio. (a local machine shop can do that for you just take the head to them)
2.) High duration cam-shafts are a must I believe.
3.) New injectors (cars not goin anywhere without fuel)
4.) New fuel pump
5.) And last but not least (and probally the easiest to do) Redo the exhaust and intake system. Put a set exhaust headers on there (any brand will do really dont get ripped off...kind of hard to not get ripped off if you read magazines like Super Street and the such...make your local AutoZone your new best friend ) and redo your intake. I own a 93 Celica as well and the intake is actually not too bad. But go to AutoZone...they have an intake pipe there for like $29.99. It goes where that black piping goes. Then get one of those "spiffy", cone-shapped, filters to allow more air flow through (NOTE: Please be sure to put this in a spot that ISNT right by the exhaust manifold or the block itself...it gets rather hot right there and expands the air molecules thus allowing you to get less air that you would from a normal temperature area...the battery area is a nice place to put it. Run your battery to your trunk and run some wires to it.) After youve got the headers and intake on there go ahead and get you a nice straight through muffler (you can pick them up for about $70...no you dont need a brand name one that costs $300...they are all basically the same thing...except one they punched the name into the top of it and charged you an extra $200 for it) If you really want to upgrade your catalitic converter as well. Those things get old and clogged up a bit with all sorts of things from dirt to dust. Now if I am right you have a 2" pipe for your exhaust (thats what mine has). This isnt too bad and allows for nice flow out of the engine so there isnt really a need to replace that. I re-did my exhaust system in about 3 hours (ran into complications and had to drill a bolt out of the flange) and did the intake in about 1 (this included moving the battery).
These are just a few things you can do in order to make your car run a bit faster. Doing all of them should boost your horsepower by about a good 80HP (this includes milling the heads and replacing the camshafts, you have two hence the term Dual Over-Head Cams or DOHC).
