I think you are incredibly lucky that you didn't hydrolock it. Drive it around some more, because the smoke could just be water and carbon crap in exhaust system making its way out.
I'd still be on the lookout for tweaked parts (rods, pistons), or a BHG, which could the source of your smoke.
How'd you get water in the engine in the first place?
