Unfortunately for them, if you can go more than 130MPH you'd be able to pull on any VW or Audi product sold in the US which has not been chip-tuned, since they are all speed limited to 130MPH regardless of how powerful their engine is. Mercedes limits their cars to 150MPH. BMW depends on the model, but most leave off a top-end limiter, and Porsches are free to run.

A stock 1.8T Passat I rented in Germany (where the ECU is not speed-limited) cruised at roughly 140MPH with 3 people on board, very comfortably and with power to spare. My W8 is awaiting a chip to release its potential, but in Europe I've heard a few posts of owners going over 160MPH...like most German cars, they love to run on the top end, designed for those long, wide Autobahns.

In my 1985 Prelude, the max speed I reached was 117MPH...the engine just ran out of momentum to push the car any faster against the aerodynamics, despite having some room left in the RPMs. The car was very stable though!

My fastest speed achieved behind the wheel so far was on the speedway at Daytona, FL in a 1985 Saab 9000 Turbo with aero bodykit...I managed a flying lap average of 148 MPH. My stepfather owned the car, and we went to open track day (they no longer do it, but in the 80's, Daytona had a run-what-you-brung day, which required a helmet only! He ended up chickening out at 120, but really wanted to know what the car could do...so he asked me if I wanted to give it a go) The car had some room for more...but it scared the living shit out of me, and I backed off when I drifted through turn 4 and despite steering input, drifted to within a few inches of the outside wall. I just wasn't trained for that kind of speed at 18 years old!

I limit my high-speed excursions these days to wide open freeways and highways with no traffic...I don't mind endangering my own life, but it isn't right to endanger others to that degree. I will stay under 100MPH when any other cars are on the road with me.
