I belive LS/VTEC is a method of creating a DOHC VTEC engine when there is no block available. I highly doubt that with a lower rev limit, lower compression, and a weaker block you will be making more power than a B18C1. Oh, and BTW, "holding the gears longer" applies to the transmission, not the engine. Shorter gears are better for acceleration... take two civics with the same engine, put an Si tranny in one, a DX tranny in the other, and watch the "gears holding longer" lose their ass.
