He told me he had one running 14's or something once..his fuel 'cell' was a plastic insecticide sprayer...no need for fuel pump (save weight) and he ran with 1-gallon of fuel and pumped it to like 80psi, and by the end of the 1320 it was down to about 45psi - lol - he always comes up with wacky-ass ideas like that!! - he said he also went under the car one day with a hacksaw to saw off the ends of all the bolts, and came out with a bucket with about 2 pounds worth of threads...again for weight savings - lol
Those air-cooled flat-4 engines are simple and easy to work on and soup up.

this is precisely why i have a bug sitting in the garage next to my 88 hatch, of course, i promised myself not to touch it until my hatch is finished. cept mine isnt gonna be strictly a drag car, its gonna be a baja bug
