I looked up some stuff in my GM service manuals that I bought for my 98. You might want to try replacing your TPS (throttle position sensor) on the throttle body, or the Idle air control valve.

On my 98 the TPS sensor is located on the bottom portion of throttle bodie ( you facing engine) and the IAC is above the TPS

HUD

According to the manual if the HUD is INOP

1 check the ip-ign fuse if that isnt it then get one of these manuals because it gets into the schematics and what voltage different connectors are supposed to be.

Sorry cant help more, there is just no way to describe what it says in the thing
