No, it's not a direct swap. You engine used CIS fuel injection unlike the Golf/Jetta's CIS-E.
The 1.8L 90hp/105lbft JH engine used in the '83-'84 Golf GTI/Jetta GLI/Scirroco/Cabriolet and in the '85-'89 Jetta and Cabriolet howerver, used CIS.
