Sounds like it could only be valve stem seals. A leaking turbo seal would smoke ALL the time , and especially under boost. The older cars like that , the valves stem seals get old and dry out and crack , especially on the exhaust side , where the valve stem temps can top 500 degrees or more......
Its a major pain to change them , since you have to remove the cams , valve springs and retainers , everything . I removed my head completely and pulled everything off , its just easier to do that way.
