Servicing the inside air filter
Greetings,
I serviced (cleaned) the inside air filter on my '02 I35 today. In case you din't know it, you have to REMOVE the glove box to get at the filter element. Six screws hold the glove box in place. It comes out pretty easy. If you have back problems have a friend get in there and do the bending around etc. I found it helpful to remove the plastic trim piece on the passenger side, by the sill. The sticker in the glove box says you can "wash" the element with soapy water, let it dry and put it back in. I cleaned it by using a vacuum cleaner and banging the element on the ground so all the small stuff falls out. I'll buy a new element and have it on hand so I can replace the old one next time I service it. My car has 11,900 miles on it. The filter was in pretty good shape and it clean up okay. I got in between each of the pleats with a narrow vacuum attachment. I also took photos as I worked. I can't post them with this email but if anyone is interested I'll forward them as requested. You should have a cable or DSL modem if you request the photos. They are about 500K in size, per photo, so a dail-up modem will take a while to down load.
