Yes as long as you stay with the same series. The 97-03 Grand Prix are generally interchangable except that the 97 PCM will not work on the other years and visa versa.

The same goes for the Buick Regal.

Would it be safe to say that all major components pertaining to the 3800 series 2 engine are interchangeable between the different GM vehicles? I can't seem to find alot of information about this.

This is a difficult sway even given the fact that you have the wiring harness and the tranny to go with the engine. Make sure you get the axle shafts as they are different than the GT. The fuel pump is a definate need. You will need different fuel lines and they aren't cheap, the PCM is different, the radiator is different than the GT, the motor mounts should fit the new engine but you need to make sure before you try to reinstall. You will also need the throttle cable and the linkage for the tranny. A few additional parts may also be required. I don't recommend you try this unless you are very mechanically inclined.

Hey GTP dad, I got a question for you and I wish you would share your wisdom with me.... I got a 98 prix GT, recently it started tickin, smoking, temp going crazy, trans slipping so I have condemned the drivetrain, I did a search and found a GTP engine with 70k and the tranny is still bolted up to it, it comes with alot of parts including the harness.... usually I would try to do a direct swap, like get the same motor and tranny but this setup I found is so cheap.... what else would I need.... fuel pump? I read your posts, you said "host of other items" what are they?

Haven't talked to you in a while.

We experienced hard shifting once or twice last year, with the higher ambient temperatures. However, this spring it started again, without the air con. The trans has never slipped, and the van has 176,000 Kms on it now.

I dropped the pan last weekend, replaced the fluid and filter, also added a bottle of Lucas trans fix. up. Inside of the pan had grey matter, but overall what was there in the pan was what I would call normal wear and tear. No pieces of clutch plates or any metal debris. Cleaned the gasket (re-useable type) and the pan, then re & re’d the grommet and filter according to the instructions.
