this may be a dumb queston (TM) but how long can you listen to the radio when the car isn't running (the key is in the AC position or whatever it's called) without killing/draining the battery?

Thanks
Joey

Depends on how good your battery is, i can listen to the radio for like a hour and a half and it still starts fine.

AHA! That's a trick question!

The correct answer is:

Until it dies.

Just playing. It depends on your battery and the size/current drain of your stereo system... If you got some big amps and subs, and you listen to it loud, it's going to drain quicker than if you just have a head-unit and stock speakers.

What you can do is install a 2nd battery and isolate it from your primary battery so that the stereo system will only draw current from the secondary battery, but the alternator will charge both batteries, so you can listen to the radio for quite a while, and even if the secondary battery dies, you won't have problems starting the car because the primary battery still has a full charge.

would that actually be worth the hassle though?

Why dont you just let the car idle when you listen to the radio???

I can't let mine play for more than 45 minutes or it'll be dead.
