which one of these cars are faster, better performance and reliability??

Reliability's hard to say.

I'd give it to the Evo on just about everything. Should be faster through the turns (in and out) and from a stand still. SRT may take it from a roll though. I've heard stories of SRT's smoking Evos, but I mostly attribute that to driver skill and/or lack thereof. The Evo's suspension is vastly superior despite the SRT's being quite good as well. The Evo's a great car, the SRT's a great bargain. That's my take on the two.

Sounds like serious driver error to me... but then again, it looks like the SRT-4 might be 400 lbs lighter than the EVO 8

now this is gettin waaay too out of hand. why are you even bothering to compare a SRT-4 to a EVO? the SRT-4 to a Z is reasonable. but a freakin EVO is much faster then the 2 of then. even the watered down EVO 8 can dust it. the EVO 8 can still 0-60 in under 5 seconds, and can run the 1/4 mile in 13.4 that is just as fast as a supra mark IV twin turbo. the evo 8 might have less power, but it still around 200 lbs lighter becasue it doesn't have the active yaw control along with the active center differential. but however it still has 3 limited slips. it has 2 helicals and 1 viscous. the car's handling is still amazing sharp, with minimal understeer like you would normally fine in a WRX. the evo will out brake the neon, out acelerate from anytime and any speed, and will out grip the neon. just to show you how much faster the evo is. the evo's best is around 5 tenths of a second faster then the neon's best. at over 100mph, a car can travel alittle over 300 feet per second. when you have a 13 second car, your trap speed is over 100mph. now if you have half a second over the other at over 100mph, thats around 150 ft ahead. which equals to around 5 car lenghts.

with the srt at around $20k and the evo being marked up to more than double the price of the neon . . . this is hardly a comparo, this is ownage of the neon via evo8 . . . no question (well except for the question of driver competence . . . but even that usually isnt marginal enough to warrant a loss for the evo8)

thats what i thought at first too. but after finding out that the neon is lighter it might be able to scoot from a roll. but as far as anything else goes nah. EVO8 ownage... I wonder if the gearing is the same as the jap version... Evo's and STi's blast to 80, but somewhat lack oomph after that... (which is why they are excellent rally cars, you rarely go above 80)

well i wouldn't exactly say that the evo is is expensive. its still under 30K. for that kind of money you can't even put a AWD drive train into a neon. or its computer controled traction control. plus you've mistaken a evo for a regular WRX. a EVO8 or any other EVO along with the STi can acelerate super fast up to 120mph. the reason for taht is beucase its still only a 4 cylinder and at that speed, the engine will start to lose steam and will require alot more effort to rocket past that speed then how a 6 or 8 or 10 or 12 cylinder would. but still its a rocket from 0-120mph, and still decently fast from 120-155 (or whereever the car is limited at)

Oh, so I guess the gearing has changed... I just remember reading that the gearing is biased for up to 80... of course the engines should make the power to get to 120 easily, but if the gearing isn't set up for it it is useless...

ok the evo 8 will run 13.4 but the srt4 will run very low 14. that 1/2 can be made up by a good driver.

also the evo 8 is not lighter than an evo VII. its about the same. Don't forget the emission crap and the impact stuff they put on it to bring it here.

and it has only 2 limited slips center and back since the front one is open.

just correcting some facts. :)

i don't think they meant the 8 is lighter than the 7. i think they meant our 8 is lighter cause we don't have the ayc and acd.
