How good is an ionizer?

This is somewhat related to paint jobs.
Having restricted to spraying paint indoors, I decided to do something more to protect my family from paint particles.
Living in HDB flats in Singapore, I really didnt want to bring out my project/s outdoors and have curious eyes staring at me. Which leaves me very little choice.
Use my bathroom.
But even so, my wife would complain about the lingering smell from the paints. Cant say I blame her so I went and borrowed a friend's ionizer to test it out.
And what a difference it made.
After 2 hours the smell in the bathroom was completely gone. Unlike before, the smell would linger for periods of a couple of hours sometimes up to 8hours.
She was satisfied and commented that the ionizer does make a difference.
Looking at the way SARS have hit us, the ionizer also acts to protect and kills off gas molecules, dust particles and germs.
I was wondering if anyone here uses ionizers, whether its in their homes, offices or in their cars.
Do they really work or is it just plain pyshological?

Ah, you mentioned smell, that would include paint smell too. Have you tried while spraying paint?

No pics but type this down from the instruction manual:
Seven step to purify the Room Air:
Nonwave filter - to capture the bigger pollutants firstly.
Electrostatic filter - to attach almost pollutants.
Active carbon filer - to eliminate the bad smell.
25pcs Stainless pin - to emit 1.0 x 10 9 Ion capacity to capture the smaller pollutants such as cigarette smoke.
25pcs Aluminum plate - to attach the captured pollutants by Ion.
Galss tube Ozone emitter - emit about 25mg/Hr. ozone capacity to kill bacteria germ, vitas mold and odor instantly.
The Electrostatic Precipitator unit not only could be easily & safety to drawn out to clean the captured pollutants, but also emit 0.02ppm Ozone capacity to kill bacteria, virus, germ.
3 speed; Max. 60CFM air flow with 40dBA noise.
15 Hours timer or continuously function selection.
Ozone regulator to control the Ozone on 2 min. and off 3 min to keep the ozone volume below 0.05ppm to meet with the international standard.
To be used on room with approved AC/DC 12V/500mA adapter.
Dimension: 28 x 20 x 12cm; Net weight: 1.20kgs
Sorry no pics for now but I think if you search the webby sure can find.
Oh and model is HC-727
Seems pretty good to me. I'll find out more from my friend later.

The carbon filter is what (I think) eliminates the paint particles from the air, and the ozone kills airborne bacteria. I think it does work, it's based on science. Have fun. :)

Seems like a good product. By the way do you know how much is the price range?
My aunt has been scolding me for spraying my models in the house and will cause harm to the health if breathe in too much of the spray fumes.
