2000 blower motoer speeds

Hi I have a 2000 Grand Am Gt that the lower blower motor speeds do not work I think its the resiter but I can not find it is the blower motor under the dash because the firewall is flat and there is nothing on it

I had the same problem on my 99 grand am se, it was the resister, on warenty at time so I did not fix the problem myself but that's what it sounds like.

I have the same problem. Where is the resistor located?Do you have to replace the whole blower motor?

The resistor is mounted forward of the blower motoron the passenger side underneath. You will need a 5.5 mm socket and a short extension. It is a real bear to get to all 3 bolts.

Wow- great news. My wife's 99 G.A> has the same prob- no LOW SPEED fan (lowest 2 settings). I swapped the high and low relays and fuses, still nothing. Time for the R swap.

The dealer wants $35 for the part, seems high for a reisistor. Any idea if this is a ceramic high power R or a Radio Shack replaceable, or even a repairable item??

Its not a Radio Shack part!! It is 4 resistors mounted together. Usually it is burnt up, you will see this when you remove it.

Removed it- took the blower out (3 7/32 screws) then the resistor board- its actually a resistive trace etched onto a printed circuit board. There was some corrosoion and the traces GONE along the thinner, outer trace, the LOW speed no doubt. The inner THICKER trace must be for the high speed. I jumpered the breaks with wire, and got it to WORK!! I am unsure if the heat that is generated is too much for the 27W solder that I used so I will replace it.

It is easier to remove the resistive circuit if you remove the blower, the back screw (there are 2 on the resistor) is hard to get at otherwise.

Well- all fixed. The NEW resistor board is now TOTALLY COATED and CORROSION PROOF! It should have been that way from day one IMHO!!

The resistor went back in easily (2 5/32 screws), the blower went back in (3 screws), the BCM and a light (1 screw), then the HARD part was re-seating the left-most panel, which has heating ducts. You have to line up a hose from above, AND a duct opening on the left, which goes inside its mate, then line up the 3 1/4 screws with their holes. The right-most trim piece snaps back is and is set with a push/flare plastic nut.

Cost- $31.45 Cdn (new part- part number is at home, sorry)
Time- 2 hours
Tools- 5/32 socket, 1/4 socket. 1/4" drive, 3" extension, flat screw driver, needle nose pliers

Now to tackle the TRAC OFF light, and the CRUISE button not working problems. Sheesh.
