Volvo is one of the largest selling brands of Class 8 trucks in the US. In the past few years, they've absorbed Autocar (the oldest brand of US trucks), GM heavy trucks, and, most recently, Mack Trucks.

First they wanted to buy Scania, but they weren't allowed to do that because this would almost give them a monopoly in northern europe...
So they bought Mack. The money they get from by selling the car part of Volvo to Ford.

Volvo Trucks in North America are made in Dublin Va. near Roanoke Va. Volvo is known for being one of the safest trucks on the road today due to the extensive testing that has been conducted over the years and the concern of the Swedes over safety. This is one the quietest trucks you will ever ride in. One can easily sit in the sleeper and talk to the driver in normal tones.
The Volvo engine is in its 3rd generation and is performing well, both from the aspect of reliability, and mpg.
It's a great truck!
