95 Pathfinder electrical problem

I am having problems with my 95 pathfinder. If I leave it uncranked for 6-7 days the battery goes down. If driven 2 times per week, it is normal. Alternator is fine and the repair shop can find nothing out of order. They disconnected a fuse from the alarm system and thought there was a short in it, but it did not help. Other clues, static through the speakers without the key in on occasions, but not always. When I get in and try and crank it if the battery is dead, I have to reprogram the radio stations. After this happens, the alarm still makes some chirping noises. Any one got any ideas?

If you have an SE or LE, I think the instrument panel will have a voltmeter reading and when driving it should be about 14V ie. alternator is charging the battery. Since it looks like the alternator is charging the battery it sounds like a battery or connection problem.

Check the obvious things first
- battery condition
- battery connections especially the ground cable and connector
- any other grounds that may be loose

To eliminate your battery as a problem source - if you are not driving your PF for 6-7 days disconnect the ground cable so nothing draws down the battery. Then reconnect it when you start it again - if the battery is OK then it's likely a connection problem. You will need to reset your presets and clock after disconnecting the ground.

Intermittant or sudden loss of your radio presets suggests it's a loose connection problem. If you had any work done on your car recently like putting in an alarm etc. most shops will disconnect the ground cable. One time I had my battery ground connector replaced at a Nissan dealer and they forgot to tighten the clamp down!!!

Make sure the terminals are clean and wiggle the connection to see if it's loose. Make sure to wiggle the connections since you really can't tell if they are loose by looking at them.
