parking brake

i have a 1997 chevy malibu, the parking brake is off but it keeps dinging like its still on, and the brake light is on...how do i shut it off so it stops doing that?:screwy:

The brake light is for more than just telling you that the parking brake is on. I would first start with checking to make sure your parking brake is all the way up (off) by pulling on it with your hand. I would also check your brake fluid level to make sure it isn't low. I had a brake line blow open and believe me, the car made it's dinging sound!
