Hello folks: I have a 2001 Caravan SE 3.3 L.....
This morning as I went to back out of the driveway I had no power steering, but, just as suddenly it started working again.
Later I checked the fluid and it WAS down, but would the steering act that way because of low fluid????
I mean it didn't work and then it did..........
What else MIGHT it be??? bad pump, maybe?? Belt slipping?????
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks......

Have you ever resolved this? My 2001 is having the exact same problem.

Alpha, check for belt tension but more than likely the dreaded morning sickness, which was what we at G.M used to call a bad rack and pinion unit.

All the above plus 2001 was the first year for the asinine filter screen in the reservoir. It created more headaches than it cured. It may be partially clogged starving the rack of fluid. Can't clean it. New reservoir runs around $30 at your dealership.

Thanks James & RIP. I have changed my reservoir in my 2003 GC because it was making the tell-tale whining noise and it solved that problem, but I never had a PS loss.

My 2001 T&C isn't making any noise at all. No whining and no belt squealking. It's suddenly no PS and then it comes right back. It won't hurt to change it anyway and hope I get lucky. I can even swap them and see if the sympton follows to the other van. Wouldn't that be a nice way to know for certain? I will try that and post back. But sadly I am afraid it might be the rack.
