its pretty easy to do from the top...its really only one bolt on the adjuster that has to be loosened..then pry the alternator up to loosen the belt....then reverse the process

thing is, i have the stupid power steering pump that i have to sort out aswell, the the pulley seems quite difficult to get to.
Just do it from the top?
and also when i am adjusting the belt, how much should i tighten it?

p/s belt deflection should be 7-10mm
2 bolts to loosed p/s pump // 1 top - 1 bottom
once loose just pull the p/s belt off
alternator belt removal is simple
loosen top adjusting nut to loosen belt tension - then remove belt
new alternator belt tension should be 9-11mm
check the tension after a few minutes of running
after putting the p/s belt on run engine & turn steering wheel lock to lock a few times & re-check tension with engine OFF
to check tension push midway between the pulleys & it should move about 7-10mm
Do not over tighten the belts which will cause premature wear to the bearings & sometimes reduce even more power
