Went to the track last night

So, last night me and some friends went up to Great Lakes Dragaway in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Traffic sucked ass, and it took forrrrrrrrrrrever to get there. I somehow managed to get 5 runs in. My best time was 14.723@95mph. I had a couple of questions tho. The 2nd time that i launched it hard, my check engine light came on. Surpisingly, i ran the 14.7 w/ it on. I'm not sure what it could be since I'm at school and dont have access to a 10mm to see what code im throwing till this weekend. I have a Mugen PR3 ecu that disables a bunch of sensors..so im wondering what could've happened.
Also, I was racing on General Ameri 175-65-14 pizza cutters. These are really shitty, non-grippy tires. I think a 3 cylinder geo metro would have traction problems with these bitches. My friends that were watching me run said that i would just sit there for about a second before i started going. How much of a difference would nice, stickier tires make in my ET? I know im faster than 14.7. I believe these tires are holding me back. Oh, and if you're curious, these are the cars i went with and their best times:
My friend Colleen's 95 Integra LS 5 speed w/ I/H/E - 16.2
My friend Beary's 97 Mustang Cobra w/ a bunch of shit - 13.5
My friend Derrek's 02 Mustang GT w/ a bunch of shit - 13.5
This dude w/ a foxbody mustang and a 467 big block or somethin - 12.2
I was very proud of Colleen. I expected HER LS to run mid to high 16s. anyways, give me some feedback...and sorry about the long ramble

Its probably better now, but about a year ago a couple of my buddies went out there ... s2000, 97 Prelude S, and a del sol, and they all could not get ANY traction on their launches cause there was gravel everywhere. I was talking about the 1/4 mile track and not the rest of the place

Theres a few things that you can do with your stock wheels that will help you out a bit. First what were you launching at ? I would say that anyting above 3500 rpm is overkill for your tires. Also what psi were your front tires at ? I would start at 20 psi and go from there and see where you hook-up best. With good tires you should be able to drop at least 3 to 4 tenths, all depends on how you drive and your setup.

forgot to change the psi in the tires. they were all at 35psi last time i checked. I got the 14.7 launching at about 3500...i tried 4500 and 4000 and it was too much :(

With slicks, you'd probably be low 14s. With better tires I'd assume around mid 14s. Like, if you think about it the ECU, spark plugs, and MSD is a combined total of pretty usless mods (:p) that really is only helping you very minimally in the HP department. Pacesetter ehxaust piping is another no-no on a B16. :D AND you've got a non-LSD Y1. :)
Honestly, I think its a pretty good time for your setup. What all do you have inside your car? I ran a 15.0 with mine in a 91 DX with full interior, extra 6X9s, a 10" sub in a heavy ass box, my amp, and a full tank of gas on 16"s. I was quite happy with it considering my car was a total porker at the time. All I had was a shitty cat back exhaust with 2.25" piping. I think the S1 tranny makes a nice difference, but its in such bad shape because its probably been beat on for its whole life. When I'm redlining every gear it grinds in every gear. :(
Anyway, thats my story. Good time though! :)

the msd, ecu, and spark plugs dont do shit - yes. i know they're not hurting anything tho..heheeh. The non-lsd Y1 is about the shittiest b series trans sans the usdm S1 from the ls. My Y1 grinds horribly in 3rd and a bunch into 2nd as well. My 89 CRX Si is full interior w/ no subs...and i had under a quarter tank of gas. I think you're right about mid 14's w/ better tires. Im going to be getting my hands on a usdm YS1 from a 93 gsr that has fucked up synchros. me and my friends are gonna rebuild it w/ brand new synchros (can go to acura/honda for that since it's usdm :D), and we are gonna put in a usdm s1 5th gear for nice highway cruising. That should improve things as well.

You're supposed to leave your tires on for the track. :p
I gotta find out when my local track opens.. I wanna go now and see if I can dip into the 14s a bit.

first things first...your stock wheels are most likely heavier than many aftermarket wheels. For instance my Rota Slipstreams weigh 12.3 pounds each. When lifting a stock wheel compared to the Rota, it's night and day. I made a 1 second difference on my 88 std model going from a 23 lb. 17" ICW Racing wheel to my 15" Rota's that weigh 12.3 lbs. That's something to consider. Secondly, you didn't list your 60 ft. times which will indicate your traction problems. I have a launch technique that I use that is pretty damn grippy. It's called "preload". When you roll to the lights, don't deep stage because you will probably roll a few inches with this technique. What you do is: 1. Prestage 2. Yank the e-brake and hold the button down 3. Rev engine out to desired RPM (I drop from around 4500) 4. Slip clutch out till it starts to engage 5. On last yellow drop e-brake, drop gas, let out clutch, LAUNCH!! This is a great technique for a number of reasons. My #1 reason is durbaility. A transmission will only take so many hard launches and this definitely eases the pain. #2, this just about eliminates shocking the drivetrain which causes wheelspin. Everything is preloaded and there will be no sudden power surges to the clutch, tranny, axles, tires, etc etc. If you don't believe me, don't flame before you try it. I drop my 15" Dunlop Sport SP5000's down to 18psi at the track and with this technique I have NO tire spin. Axle hop is greatly reduced and my 60 ft. are a respectable 2.2. I know this isn't the greatest but I drive home after each and every holeshot. Give it a try.

u missed opening day bud
it opened April 13th (last sunday) my buddy took his VR6 Jetta up there and ran 15.5's @ 100+
just a quick warning, he said once he hit the sticky part of the track he lost alot of traction and spun the tires but on the launches where its not sticky he said he was gettin traction out the wazoo lol
so dont be suprised if u run bad times cuz i'm guessin the track wasnt 100% good, also it wasnt too great of a day,

Either really.. I haven't ran on Cayugas track yet, but I go there to watch quite a bit. I don't run at importsociety meets though because its $50, I just go when its a Friday night for street legals. St.Thomas is like a 30 minute drive for me, so I just go up there a lot on Fridays.
