It wouldn't fit in a LHD example I don't think- the steering coulmn would get in the way (The reason the R32/33/34 could never be LHD)- but if anyone HAS actually pulled it off- I would b most interested

I just saw a pic of an RB26 into a 350z the other day on here... wouldn't it be about the same to put it into a G35?

There are many skylines that have been converted to LHD. :)

I have more pics if anyone wants to see them.

you could do it if you had the cash, but it's not street legal.
motor has to be from vehicle of same or newer year to be street legal...

have fun with emissions...

You can always use bribes to pass emissions right? :)

Screw the tree huggers.

The G35 and 350z's engine bay is no where near large enough to accommodate an inline 6 engine. The engine bays on both of these cars are very small the VQ35 just fits. After-market manufactures had a difficult time producing turbos and superchargers that would even fit.

So why have there been mags with a 350Z with an RB26 in it? I saw it with my own eyes, so it MUST be possible.

Two options, photoshop, or you cut the firewall.

The RB series engines are HUGE! and I mean HUGE engines.
Way over sized IMO for thier compartivly small cubic capacity, hence thier incrediable strength and ablity to make as much hp as you can supply boost. (ever seen a high hp N/A RB?)

To give you a comparison an RB26 from an GTR skyline is two clyinders longer than the 2.5L engine from my old Triumph.
Both inline 6s, and both of close enough capacity, yet when you add in the size of the twin cam heads, and all the timeing gear water pump etc an RB26det is almost twice as big (and at the limit will make more than 5 times as much hp :) ).
Infact the RB series engines are a similar size to the 4.0L units used by Ford in the Australian falcon, and the 4.?L 6 in the Jeeps.

Of course its possible the engine bay in the 350z is bigger than it looks, its possible that once you remove all crap from around the V6 there might be just enough room to squeeze in an RB26.

:ylsuper Nice!

Just two questions:
1/ Wheres the radiator?
2/ Wheres the raditor fan? (the RB enignes use a viscus fan driven off I think the water pump?)

Looks like the V6 must sit quite far back in the chassis, almost behind the frount axle, and Im guessing the radiator also sits quite far back to give it as much room as possible to be as big as possible.
The RB series engine then has enough room, provided you can custom mount a new radiator further forward (not really that hard to do) unforunatly its going to severly mess with the cars weight balance.

Well u could just use skinny as thermofans instead of the stock one. That car will be completed no sweat.
U can get any engine in any car if ur prepared to spend the money.
Rb26's in datsun 1600's, 20B's in escorts etc etc are all in australia.

I know there are some JDM Q45's with a RB26DETT engine swap. Maybe if you had a lot of $$ and the know how you could fit an RB26 in a 350Z but I think it would throw off the weight distribution be cause its longer and heavier then the stock VQ35 V6

I took the radiator fan off, because it is junk. I have two electric fans on the way.

The weight balance of the car is all good. The motors are very simular weight, and the rb sits back further, so it may actually have a better weight ratio.

I don't think the motorswap will effect the handeling alot. If it does I am going to get new suspenion, but any car with 700hp is going to be mainly a straightline car anyways.

Brent,

Awesome work. I am actually in awe for someone doing this mod. Very impressive.

Went to your site, very nice facility. There is not much info that I could find on your engine. What turbo are you going with? Have you done anything with the tranny.

I have a house down in Perry, so I might be seeing you in a couple of years, once my tour is over here.

Thanks for the comments. I will be updating the site, the one that is online now I didn't make, but I will be making a better site soon, and it will contain some more info on my car, and our 9 second supra.

I am probably going with a T72, or something close to that. The transmission is the RB25, its stock for now. I will probably keep it stock until it breaks, which I hope is a very long time.

Cool, Im not familiar with Perry, but if you are ever in GA shoot me an email. I will probably be going to TN to live within the next year though to attend college. Im thinking about getting an AWD Dyno to generate some money while in school.

G'day and welcome to the forums, its nice to actualy have a member here who is doing some differnt, and sounds like they know what they are doing. :)

Im amazed everytime the viscous fan on a GTR, all that technology and it hinges on a part that has been proven to be inferrior to a simple electric fan, and all so Nissan can save a few $$.

Also interesting to hear that the weight differnce isnt that great, the RB isnt exactly a small enigne, but as you pointed out with 700hp the cars ablity to go around corners clearly isnt a factor in its build up.

Good luck on the project, keep us up dated.

Yeah it is possible but as some of the other people in the forum said it will cost you and it helps to have plenty of people to help you. My girlfriend is driving a G35 with an RB26 in it now.
