Relieve Fuel Pressure

What's the best way to relieve fuel pressure so I can change the fuel filter and replace the fuel pump assembly? Need to do some troubleshooting but I know the fuel assembly is bad.

Horrible gas mileage...11 city/17 highway right now. I just sea-foamed the engine. It otherwise runs pretty good. Other suggestions?

I never bother...but that's just me. You could start it up, then remove the Fuel Pump Relay, I suppose....

As for the crappy mileage, guess I'd start with the basics. Check air filter, replace fuel filter, check fuel pressure, compression, etc....

You will have to either pull the electrical connector to the pump or relieve the pressure at the fuel rail between the ps pump and the alternator. If you remove the fp relay it will not stop the fuel pump as there is redundancy in the wiring. The easiest is to disconnect the wiring harness at the tank.

Pull the FP fuse, there is no redundancy there and it is easiest. I have yet to "relieve fuel system pressure", that is done by disconnecting the connection at the filter with a catch pan under the filter.... :-)
