I have 26500 miles on the original OEM Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 tires and they should have been replaced 1000 miles ago. Certainly not very good mileage from these, so I'm looking for other suggestions. I live in a small town and most driving is town driving with some occasional interstate trips of 30 to 60 miles. I'm not an aggressive driver. NE-central Ohio, so some snow to deal with in the winter.

I'm most interested in good mileage for the money and a smooth quiet ride.

What are you running on your Avalons and what are your experiences?

Thanks

This is where I love tirerack.com. The ability to read the surveys and reviews of a bazillion tires without being forced to "buy before you try" at a tire store.

I typed in your vehicle and your OEM tires came up ranked 15th on the list for touring tires. The UTQG for your tires is "440 A A 93V". The treadwear factor is the "440" which is compared to a "standard" tire of 100. Somewhat nebulous, but finding a tire with a high number will give you longer treadwear life.

One of the standouts on the list is the Michelin Primacy MXV4, a grand touring, all-season tire with excellent survey feedback and a UTQG of "640 A A 94H". Slightly cheaper too. It's only caveat is a lower speed rating than your OEMs (H=130 mph versus V=149 mph).

But play around with the site, it is very informative. Also make sure the tires are rotated frequently, especially on higher-powered front wheel drive cars so you get better and more even wear on all 4 tires. Good luck!
