Rear Speaker 01 Grand Prix

How in the world do I remove the rear speakers from a 2001 Grand Prix? I've read on the Internet that there are screws in the trunk to remove the speaker cover, all the way to removing the entire back seat.

I've got one speaker that doesn't work anymore. Thought it may be the wiring since it just quit, but I've got a 2007 GMC Sierra that just had two speakers replaced two days ago under warranty. They just quit. I know that's off topic, but I'm aggravated, lol.

Thanks ya'll! :)

the rear deck has to be removed to access the speaker screws. To do that the backs of the rear seat need to come off. I am not exaclty sure how to do it, so maybe someone else will be able to chime in.

Pop lower seat cushion off remove bolts holding back rest on and pop out push pins holding rear deck cover down. Its very simple. Go to your parts store and get a door panel remover to get those pesky plastic retainers out.

I'll definately second the purchase of a panel removal tool! you really have to dig, but once you get the rear deck and insulation out of the way, they really aren't that difficult.. You will probably want to get some new plastic fasteners too though, to make sure you don't have any vibrations in the trim from the new speakers.

Thanks guys. I did not know they made a "door panel remover tool." I already have some of the fasteners though because I've replaced three window motors in the last nine years. Wish I'd had that tool then.

I popped the bottom seat out of the back just to get a look at everything and it looks just like you say, so I will give it a shot first thing tomorrow. I really appreciate the help. I had no idea where to start with the speakers.
