I wonder if he has larger tires or something... like if his speedo is correct. Not that I doubt it with enough HP you can produce some mean topend numbers. But always something to consider.

Speedos are inaccurate at high speeds anyway, as they don't compensate for tire expansion. Only high end exotics have speedometers that are accurate at high speeds.

That is a very wrong statement.

how so? even supra's need around 600 hp to hit that kind of speed. and the supra is geared more for highend plus it has better aerodynamics. most of the japanese wangan (highway) battle cars have anywhere from 600 to 800hp and they all hit around 180 to 190ish. so you mean to tell me that a dsm can hit that with less? esp with its poor aerodynamics. not to mention that with your stock gearing, you probrably only top out at 150 or 160. first you need to change your 5th gear and final drive so you can even hit that speed. now since your car is geared taller to hit a higher top end. now you need more power don't you? so now you need guess what? around 600hp.

180 is getting pretty close to the top end of a 600 ish horsepower Supra. I'd say it's about 190 at the most. I've run 175 with some motor left but I've never actually pegged it out.

Top speed is all about gearing, 186 is max for a 2G FWD DSM, so it has torque in its favor. DSM's aren't supras if you didn't notice. Vipers can do 190+ with 450 hp. Its not what you have, its how you use it. DSMs are pretty aerodynamic too. Don't post your guesses.

can you please tell me the gear ratio for your fifth and final drive. cause if your car can do 186 stock, then you got some tall ass gears. also give me your redline and your tire size so i can calculate your theoretic top speed.

also since when did taller gears favor torque? shorter gears favor torque multiplication. taller gearing favors higher rev speed but your torque goes to hell. why do you think if you start off in 5th at like 30mph your car can barely acelerate? thats cuase your throwing it into over drive (gear ratio less then a 1:1)

Yeah but Vipers have a 480+ ci V10 whereas the Eclipse uses a small 4-cylinder, it makes sense for those cars to only have 450 hp and reach high speeds. Yeah Eclipses are sort of aerodynamic but they aren't that great, probably about as good as that car in Tat's signature is.


The more I look at this guys website the more of a cocky asshole he comes out to be. Jesus christ he has this humorous link to what you are from what you drive, its pretty funny but then when he mentions Eclipse he says something like "V8 killer, destroys all domestics", wtf its just an Eclipse, Supras are able to fit under that category. alright you want facts? i've done some research on your dsm. i've found out that your car has 2 over drives even though its a 5 speed, and your 5th gear is pretty tall which is a .74:1 but your final drive is too short which is a 4.15:1 now you also have a 7000rpm. now i've used a gear ratio calculator and for your gear ratio and redline, with the tire size of 225/35R17's your car can only go 157mph. thats the highest it can possibly go unless you like i said earlier change 5th gear, or change the whole final drive. 157 is waaaay off from 186mph. cause there is no way that alittle dinky dsm can have taller gears then a supra mark IV, a R34 skyline gt-r, a lancer evo, and a nsx. cusae non of htose cars can go that fast stock. and they all need atleast 600hp. cusae of the aerodynamic drag of each of those cars.

hmmm for fun i checked out the supra's highest possible speed. the 6th gear is .793 and the final drive is 3.266 with the redline of 6500rpm. with stock tires you hve 225/50R16's in the front and that goes 186mph. you must've mistaken your eclipse for a supra. heh

Heres all the info you want tat. It was from another thread about the same video.

The video I posted was in a car that had at most 450 horsepower. It clearly hit over 170 mph. He was bouncing off the factory set 7500 rpm redline, hmm that rules out factory tach. So at 7500 rpm, in 5th gear it IS IMPOSSIBLE for him to be doing less that 180 mph. I guess your friends with highly modded dsms dont know what they are talking about. I have hit 150 and no my hatch does not shack at all.

A 2G fwd dsm has a 5th gear ratio of 0.741. So at 7500 rpm the it would be spinning at 10,121.46 rpm. With a final drive of 4.153 the axel would be spinning at 2437.14 rpm or 40.619 rps. With a tire that is 79.98 inches around spinning at 40.619 rps that is 270.742 fps. That is 974671 feet per hour. Divide by 5280 and what do you get????
184.597 MPH. That does not even include the centrifugal force increasing the diameter of the tire. Is that explained well enough for you?

see if your redline is 7400rpm then that is more reasonable. i just find it odd that mitsubishi would put such gears in a car like that. but i guess if it really can go that high, then it can. i stand corrected

it took that dsm, a while, but it shows that that dsm hit 180 in less than a minute in the clip. but still, comparing that dsm with a VIPER?? vipers are totally different from that dsm hittin 180s, still though, i dunno the answer thats makin that dsm hittin 180, only the owner of that dsm owner knos the answer

In case anyone was intrested the owner of the Black GSX that was featured in SCC is Scott Gray. On his website (http://www.dsmporn.com) he has a video of his (now) 400hp GSX hittin 177. Don't think it took much longer than a pos viper either. He has since then gone 184 in 31 sec from a standing start.
