Glasspack Resonator

what is the glasspack resonator exactly?

It's a straight through resonated pipe that pack fiberglass strands around the main pipe to muffle sound/pressure waves. Stay away from the if they contain a louvered core. Meanig if you look down the pipe and see little 'vents' stickin up don't get it. Or get it sized so that, taking the louvers into account, the inner diameter is still the same size. Meaning if you're building a 2.25" exhaust you might need a 2.5" or even a 2.75" resonator.

will it increase the sound a bit? i assume that it gives a little performance due to better straight airflow. the resonator goes before the pipe that leads to the exhaust right?:confused:

No a resonator is supposed to decrease sound. If you want a louder exhaust note don't put a resonator on. A resonator typically goes on the straight section right after the cat.

I have my car straight piped with no glasspack, it sounds great untill you go full throtle too about 4000 then it baffles really bad, with a glass pack it wont baffle. I got mine straight piped with a good tip for 120, glass packs are only like 20-30 dollars, I will add one on when I have the chance. Dont just straight pipe! Add a pack. When and if you decide to get a cat-back custom exhaust, it is highly recommended by many (read Mike Kojima's article in SCC on custom exhausts. I believe it was the October issue ???) to install a glasspack after the cat. Then the piping will lead to your aftermarket muffler and exit through the tip of your choice.

The glasspack will drastically cut back on in-cabin resonance and will give the exhaust a more milder deeper tone.

Most aftermarket bolt-on catbacks (Greddy, etc) have an actual resonator already built in to the piping. No need to add one yourself.

Now, if you want to have a bumble bee exhaust "bwabwabwa...buzzzzzbuzzzbuzzbuz!!", be my guest and follow TIZAO's advice. :bloated:

nonono, i didnt want a bumble bee exhaust :D i just wanted to know if i will get horsepower out of it and NOT increase sound. i dont want my car to sound like a honda. i just wanted to know if it was after the cat, or right before the tip. :p

No HP gains, just a sound mind. :D

By the way, see my sig. It's a pearl titanium white just like yours, but a '96. Pretty nifty color and I do not see much of them here in Ohio.

The THRUSH glasspack cost $15. I think the part # is 21205. It is 25" long glasspack with a 20" canister. 2.25" I.D. in/out and the center core is 2" I.D.

Most of them run between $15-$30 depending on quality and where you purchase them.

NAPA wanted $29.99 for the THRUSH. I picked the same one up at JEG's Performance here in Ohio for $14.99. JEG's has a website for online purchasing as well.

Ok ok ok so everyone is hating on my idea. Actually with the gp on it makes it a lot quieter than just straight piping, I made that mistake already. Its not too, bad. If you want performance while making it quiet, put a high flow cat on and then a glass pack. I have high flow cats for under $100! Let me know if you are interested. :alien: :bloated: :licker: :smoka:
