Im a huge car newb and am wondering if it's worth buying this car. It's a 1992 Eagle Talon 5 speed 2.0L with 169000km and going for $800. It's in good condition except it also has a broken rod bearing.
Not knowing anything about cars, how bad is the broken rod bearing? Is it drivable?

Let's start with 169,000KM which is just a touch beyond 100K for a 92 model " I consider that low.
Most people will tell you a car selling for $800. can't be road worthy, and I agree, but there are sleepers and exceptions, here are some steps I would persue to get my money's worth.
In Newfoundland you will need a safety certificate in order to get it plated and licenced, take vehicle to a mechanic and find out the cost to get vehicle certified, if it's within $500. your total investment will be $1200. plus taxes, a bargain if vehicle will last a year without major issues.
Knowing the weather conditions in your area, how is the body on this car ?
