Fog light and door code questions

Hi folks,

This is my first post here, I just bought an 04 LS and I have a couple questions.

The first is about the fog lights. Were they an option? Mine seems to have been a lease car and doesn't have any options whatsoever, so if fog lights were optional, it probably didn't have them. That may sound like a silly question but I ask because mine has the switch in the dashboard, the mountings in the bumper, even the bulbs in the mountings, but I can't find any wires going to them! Strangely enough, even with no wires, when I remove a bulb, the info center says there is a bulb missing (!!??)

Next question, maybe a little easier... I know the permanent combination for the door code is printed on one of the computers, which one and where is it?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

1. AFAIK, fog lights were standard on all LS. Apparently, you can't see them but the wires are there. The fog lights only come on if the headlights are on (auto on manual on position) and the switch is pulled out.

2. You "know" incorrectly. The code is not printed in unencrypted form anywhere. The dealer scan tool can retrieve the factory code.

I never had the need to look for the keypad code on my 2004 LS when I still owned it. Many other Fords have the 5-digit code on a sticker on the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module. The LS does not use a RAP, instead the keypad interfaces with the Driver Door Module (DDM) which communicates with the Front Electronic Module (FEM) or Rear Electronic Module (REM) to unlock the appropriate door or doors.

If the sticker were likely to be anywhere it would likely be on the DDM. Have you checked the owner's manual for either a card with the code or a hand-written 5-digit code somewhere?

Also, I agree about the fog/driving lights, every LS I've seen has had them. If the bulbs and housings are there, your car also has them. Are you saying that the "bulb missing" indicator only comes on if you remove one of the driving light bulbs, it is otherwise not indicated? Have you confirmed that, with the low beam headlights on, the driving lights do not work? They likely will not work with the high beams.

The factory key pad remote code only came on a credit card with the owners manual, you will not find it anywhere else on the Lincoln LS other than have it read by a dealer on a scanner.

Any ideas why Ford decided to be different on the LS regarding the code than other larger volume vehicles? As far as retrieving the code via the CAN bus, other professional scan tools can access that as well. If you have a buddy with an OTC Genisys you can pull the code that way too. I'm not sure about the others like Snap-On.

Maybe Ford felt it was a security issue, don't know if other current Ford model still have information attached on vehicle.

The sticker is still affixed to the module in the 2004 Mountaineer/Explorer and I've read of others with 2005 and 2006 Explorers that were also able to find the code. I don't have experience with any newer Fords (other than my wife's 2010 MKZ which I haven't dug in to yet) to know if they are still using the stickers. There was quite a bit about the LS that was pseudo "one-off" though (LS, T-bird, Jaguar).
